Black Student Union
Throughout my sophomore to senior year of high school, I was the founding public relations officer for my school's first black student union. Through my involvement with the organization, I gained unparalleled leadership experience, putting forth my resources to uphold our mission statement of promoting a better understanding of black experiences through projects and community service.
Significant Moments
01
Callahan Center College Fair
The Callahan Center College Fair was a collaboration between Orlando's Callahan Neighborhood Center and the Black Student Union. Each participant made an informational poster for a college or university to educate the center's children about their future educational options. The purpose of this fair was to give underprivileged children a chance to see how bright their futures will become.
02
Miles to go Charity Collaboration
This collaboration between the Black Student Union and the Miles To Go charity consisted of BSU members putting bags of essential items and encouraging messages together to give them to the homeless. Orlando has one of the largest homeless populations in America, so each participant brought 5 bags home with them to give to the homeless in Orlando.

Letters to Lower School
This Black Student Union project was within its pre-k-12 school, Lake Highland Preparatory School. The lower school consists of grades pre-k-5, so the BSU members wrote letters to students of color within the lower school with words of encouragement. LHPS is a predominately white institution, so this project's goal was to make lower school children of color feel as if they have a place where they are welcome when they eventually enter the upper school (9-12).
