Leadership Academy

Throughout my junior and senior years of high school, I participated in my school's leadership academy program. This capstone program consisted of a "leader in training" program through junior year to senior summer, followed by the elective leadership academy course during senior year. This program guided me in developing essential leadership skills, teaching me the importance of both pushing yourself to a become better you and using the skills you learn to help the community around you.

Significant Moments

01

Outdoor Odyssey

The Leadership Academy Outdoor Odyssey was a week-long odyssey during the summer before senior year in the mountains of western Pennsylvania. Throughout the week, my peers and I were faced with obstacles that required teamwork, perseverance, and trust in each other to overcome them. My skills of discipline, adaptability, and problem-solving were put to the test throughout this experience and I came out in the end with refined leadership skills.

02

Ivey Lane Elementary School

Throughout my senior year, my peers and I went to Ivey Lane Elementary School to serve as teacher aids under the guidance of our Leadership Academy program. We were to serve as mentors and friends to the children throughout their learning journey, putting our resources together to give them the best Elementary experience that we can. The pictures to the right depict the Halloween carnival that we organized for the children, with each of us buying costumes for the children we mentor. My mentee, Jaliyah, and I dressed as Michael Jackson.

03

Ivey Lane Christmas

An extension of the collaboration between my Leadership Academy program and Ivey Lane Elementary School is the Ivey Lane Christmas Event. For this event, my peers and I put together our resources and donations to wrap Christmas presents for all of the children of Ivey Lane. We then set up a Christmas festival in the school's pavilion where we invited the children to come and open their presents and enjoy the Christmas festivities.
