Project 1: Annotated Bibliography

This assignment is part of my larger Gordan Rule assignment, my Project 1 research assignment. The annotated Bibliography assignment called for me to find six secondary sources to support my research and analyze how these resources will interact with each other to support my main idea. I was directed to consider the credibility of my sources, with a criterion that four out of the six sources must be peer-reviewed for credibility. This assignment meets the outcome for evaluating and acting on criteria for relevance and creativity when gathering, analyzing, and presenting sources by prompting me to perform evaluations on my gathered six sources regarding their credibility and relevance to my research question and presenting my determinations of these sources in a formal way to my instructor. I outlined how I will use my sources throughout my assignment, stating for one of my sources that “I will

use this article as a source that will provide insights into potential solutions to the current socioeconomic barriers that prelaw students face, leading to my call to action” (Leonard 4). Such specifications provide insight to my instructor on how I will incorporate these sources into my final project. This assignment was impactful to me because it allowed me to practice my investigative research skills, with an emphasis on finding credible sources for my project. This is a useful skill to have as I will likely complete more research as my career progresses, so being able to find credible sources and outline how I will use this will prove to be beneficial to my research process. For this assignment, I reflected on my writing after receiving my grade for it and comments from my instructor highlighting a key error I made as I completed my citations for one of my sources; I had failed to italicize a journal name. This mistake and subsequent reflection made me more aware of how to properly cite sources from credible sources when I complete research.

Project 2: Artifact Selection

This assignment followed my first project and acted as an introductory assignment for my Gordan Rule assignment, Project 2. The artifact selection prompted me to search for two artifacts that address the same topic that I investigated in Project 1, financing law school, that use different rhetorical strategies to do so. I provided my two chosen artifacts and three rhetorical strategies that I believed could be investigated within each one. This assignment fits the outcome of evaluating criteria for relevance and ethics when gathering, analyzing, and presenting sources by directing me to perform analysis on the two artifacts that I found and identify the rhetorical strategies within them that I believe could be analyzed for my project. This assignment was impactful to me as it prompted me to educate myself on different rhetorical strategies and understand how to identify them within different types of resources, which is a skill that I

feel I will find useful in the future. This assignment did not call for specified writing, so there was not much reflection to be done regarding the quality of my writing; however, I was able to reflect on my knowledge regarding writing and how different rhetorical strategies can be identified and analyzed.
