QQC #3: Ecstasy of Influence

This assignment is a QQC assignment, which means Question Quote Comment Discussion Assignment. This specific QQC prompted me to read an essay called "The Ecstasy of Influence" and formulate a question about the reading, a quote that stuck out to me about the reading, and a comment on a peer’s discussion post. This assignment fits the criteria for integrating multiliteracy into my writing by directing me to demonstrate my ideas regarding the reading in three different literal formats. I first displayed a question that I had regarding the assignment, following the question with a quote from the reading that was significant to me. I then applied my interpretation to my peers by responding to one of my peer’s discussion posts with my ideas regarding their selection. This assignment impacted me by prompting me to use three different literal forms to address the same reading, thus pushing me to think more critically

about the reading and how I was able to interpret it in comparison to my peers. When addressing one of my peer’s interpretations, I wrote “It’s tough when upcoming creators are criticized for building on existing ideas; however, Lethem suggests that influence is a natural part of creativity, and attacking it only stifles innovation” (Leonard 1). This comment acted as a form of literacy that not only addressed my peer’s ideas but also incorporated my ideas and analyzed how the different ideas and interpretations of the text interacted with each other. Moving forward in my writing experience, I will be able to analyze a reading in from three different prompted methods to allow me to think critically about the writing that I absorb and make me a more mindful reader. As I analyzed my peer’s writing, I reflected on my writing and noticed the certain characteristics within my writing that would lead my audience to think one way about my interpretation in favor of another, which gave me insight on how to write properly for an audience's understanding.

Project 1: Research Proposal

This research proposal assignment is an aspect of my larger Gordan Rule assignment, the Project 1 investigative field research assignment. This research proposal assignment calls for me to interpret the Project 1 assignment sheet provided to me by my instructor and configure a research question that I will base my research on. Along with my research question, I will also provide a project summary of the main goals of the project and a purpose as to why I chose my respective research question. This assignment fits the criteria for integrating multiliteracies into my writing by prompting me to incorporate multiple literal forms of writing into my proposal to encapsulate my overall research focus. I did this by incorporating questions such as my main research question and supplementary questions into my proposal, outlining the purpose and direction of the project in a digestible summary, and presenting challenges that I

may face as I perform my research for this project. These different literal forms all work together to create a proposal that will demonstrate the direction of my project and how I intend to complete it. I stated my research question, “What barriers do pre-law students face on the journey to becoming practicing attorneys, with a focus on how wealth plays a role in this journey?” (Leonard 1) and provided supplemental information to show the ways I will act on this question throughout my research. This assignment was impactful to me as it directed me to understand how I can lay out my ideas regarding any project in a way that is detailed yet digestible by incorporating different aspects of writing such as questions, statements, bullet points, and more to present my purpose to a reader. As I advance in my career, this skill will be important for me to present my ideas for projects to my supervisors or professors. I reflected on my writing style throughout this assignment by constantly considering what type of writing will be the best to carry out the purpose of my research, and adjusting the way that I write according to that.
